There’s a fifth grader in Peoria, Illinois named Rhemy Elsey, who’s been deaf since birth, and recently a bunch of his classmates decided to do something pretty awesome.
They started a club where once a month, they skip recess to learn SIGN LANGUAGE. Rhemy’s interpreter teaches them, and says they’ve already learned enough to have basic conversations with him. And they all seem to enjoy it. But the biggest difference she’s seen is in Rhemy, who’s come out of his shell and has been a lot more confident than he was before.
