When it comes to lying, men are far more likely than women to tell a fib — and may not even feel guilty about it! That’s the word from a poll of 3,000 people taken by the British Science Museum in London. The number one lie men tell is “I didn’t have that much to drink,” which is meant to mislead their partner about their drinking habits. Meanwhile, women use the line “Nothing’s wrong! I’m fine” to hide their true feelings.
The top 10 lies men tell:
- I didn’t have that much to drink.
- Nothing’s wrong! I’m fine.
- I had no signal.
- It wasn’t that expensive.
- I’m on my way.
- I’m stuck in traffic.
- No, your bum doesn’t look big in that.
- Sorry, I missed your call.
- You’ve lost weight.
- 10.It’s just what I’ve always wanted.
The top 10 lies women tell:
- Nothing’s wrong! I’m fine.
- I don’t know where it is. I haven’t touched it.
- It wasn’t that expensive.
- I didn’t have that much to drink.
- I’ve got a headache.
- It was on sale.
- I’m on my way.
- Oh, I’ve had this for ages.
- No, I didn’t throw it away.
- 10.It’s just what I’ve always wanted.
The average man tells three lies a day, which amounts to 1,092 lies a year. while more honest, the average woman tells her share of fibs, too, uttering lies 728 times a year or about twice a day. Still, women insist they are better liars than men. We are more likely to lie to our mothers than to our partners. 25 percent of men admit to lying to their mom, compared with 20 percent of women. But only 10 percent of both men and woman said they were likely to lie to their partner. Women are more likely than men to feel guilty after telling a lie. Fully 82 percent of women say it bothers them when they fib, compared with just 70 percent of men.
