Yo, hold the fries, because apparently fast food is fancy now! A recent survey by LendingTree found a whopping 78% of Americans consider grabbing a burger a “luxury” these days.
Remember the good ol’ days when a quick drive-thru run was your savior after a long week? Those days seem to be gone, replaced by sticker shock at the register. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of people admitted they were straight-up shocked by their fast food bill recently.
So what’s the deal? Prices are skyrocketing faster than a greased-up fry at a carnival. While fast food used to be the king of convenience and affordability, it seems that crown has been snatched. In fact, 75% of people said it’s actually cheaper to cook at home – something your grandma probably told you years ago!
But wait, there’s more! Almost half (46%) of those surveyed said they think fast food is just as expensive, if not more so, than a sit-down meal. Who needs a tablecloth when your bill can break the bank anyway, right?
Don’t despair, deal hunters! There is a glimmer of hope. 72% of people said they’d be more likely to indulge in a fast food feast if there were discounts offered during off-peak hours. So, maybe those late-night cravings can still be satisfied… for the right price.
The Bottom Line: Fast food isn’t so fast or cheap anymore., But hey, at least we can all (somewhat) agree that Chick-fil-A reigns supreme in the fancy-fast-food world (25% of votes!).
